Doctoral Student in Astrophysics
Conduct cutting-edge research in X-ray astronomy and supernova remnants at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in physics or astronomy with a strong background in data analysis and observational astrophysics.
Overview
The School of Engineering Sciences at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is offering a fully-funded PhD position in Astrophysics with a primary focus on X-ray astronomy and supernova remnants. Working within the research group of Professor Josefin Larsson at the Oskar Klein Centre, the candidate will analyze observational data from major space telescopes like XMM-Newton and Chandra alongside multiwavelength datasets. The project investigates the physical properties of compact objects and emission mechanisms associated with supernovae. The successful applicant will engage in collaborative international research, pursue advanced doctoral coursework, and contribute to scientific publications within a vibrant academic environment.
What you'll do
- Analyze observational datasets from major space-based X-ray telescopes such as XMM-Newton and Chandra.
- Investigate emission processes and physical properties of supernovae and their remnants.
- Apply data mining and data-intensive techniques to complex astronomical data.
- Integrate multiwavelength observations from infrared, optical, and other facilities.
- Collaborate with researchers within the Oskar Klein Centre and broader international networks.
- Prepare scientific results for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at conferences.
- Contribute to departmental tasks, teaching, or administration up to a maximum of 20% of the role.
