Post-Doctoral Researcher in Aerosols, Clouds, and Climate Modelling
Advance global km-scale Earth system models to study aerosol-cloud interactions and climate evolution.
Best for:Best for atmospheric physicists with strong computational skills and experience in climate or Earth system modelling.
Overview
The Department of Physics at the University of Oxford is inviting applications for a Post-doctoral Researcher to focus on km-scale modelling of aerosols, clouds, and their interactions. Aligned with the EU Horizon Europe RealESM project, the successful candidate will improve aerosol and cloud representations within next-generation global Earth System Models and evaluate climate impacts. The role involves close collaboration with international partners, developing innovative research methods, presenting findings at academic meetings, and publishing in high-impact journals. Additionally, the post-holder will have opportunities to engage in teaching and co-supervise doctoral students.
What you'll do
- Enhance the representation of aerosols, clouds, and their interactions in global km-scale Earth System Models.
- Evaluate aerosol effects on effective radiative forcing, precipitation, and extreme events with a focus on convective systems.
- Collaborate closely with national and international partners within the RealESM project consortium.
- Develop innovative research methodologies to simulate rapid climate evolution.
- Present research findings at domestic and international academic conferences.
- Draft and publish scientific papers in leading high-impact journals.
- Contribute to teaching activities and optionally co-advise doctoral students.
