PhD position in molecular imaging of microbial infections
Join a cutting‑edge PhD project developing new imaging agents for bacterial and fungal infections at the University of Groningen.
Best for:Ideal for MSc graduates in synthetic organic chemistry or pharmacy with strong laboratory skills and an interest in imaging and microbiology.
Overview
The University of Groningen offers a four‑year PhD position focused on molecular imaging of microbial infections. The project expands the university’s recent work on optical and PET tracers for Gram‑positive bacteria to include Gram‑negative bacteria and fungi. The candidate will design, synthesize and evaluate novel imaging agents, study their photochemical properties, and test them in biological models. Work will be carried out within the HTRIC consortium together with experts in chemistry, photochemistry, microbiology and imaging. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary research and publish the results.
What you'll do
- Design and synthesize novel imaging agents for bacterial and fungal infections.
- Characterise the photochemical behaviour of the synthesized tracers.
- Evaluate imaging agents in in‑vitro and in‑vivo biological models.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members from chemistry, microbiology, physics and imaging.
- Contribute to data analysis and interpretation of imaging results.
- Present findings at conferences and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
