PhD Candidate in AI-Driven MAC Control for Integrated Terrestrial-NTN 6G Networks
Develop AI-driven MAC control frameworks for next-generation 6G networks integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial platforms.
Best for:Best for recent master’s graduates with expertise in wireless communications, AI/ML, and a passion for cutting-edge 6G network research.
Overview
This fully funded PhD position at NTNU’s Department of Information Security and Communication Technology focuses on designing AI-driven MAC control mechanisms for integrated terrestrial-NTN (Low Earth Orbit satellites, HAPS, UAVs) 6G networks. The successful candidate will build and test a self-healing, closed-loop prototype addressing challenges like dynamic radio environments, resource constraints, and service disruptions. The role involves hands-on research, teaching duties, and collaboration within NTNU’s Networking Research Group. Applicants should have a master’s degree in wireless communications, computer networks, or related fields with a strong background in AI, ML, and mathematics.
What you'll do
- Conduct high-quality doctoral research focused on AI-driven MAC control for integrated terrestrial-NTN 6G networks, including designing, implementing, and validating a self-healing prototype.
- Develop AI-based mechanisms for link adaptation, anomaly detection, failure prediction, and autonomous recovery in dynamic network environments.
- Implement and test algorithms on NTNU’s B5G Lab infrastructure, including 5G equipment, open-source RAN stacks, programmable switches, and AI hardware.
- Publish research findings in recognized academic venues and contribute to international conferences and research dissemination.
- Actively participate in the Networking Research Group’s activities, including international collaborations and research stays abroad.
- Teach and support learning activities in courses related to communications and networking at NTNU.
- Complete all doctoral coursework and obtain the PhD degree within the 4-year contract period.
