Doctoral Researcher in Engineering Science
Investigate innovative steel-timber composite beams through experimental and numerical modeling at the University of Luxembourg.
Best for:Best for civil or structural engineering graduates with a strong interest in hybrid structural systems, finite element modeling, and laboratory testing.
Overview
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a 36-month doctoral researcher position in engineering science within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine. Working under the ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction, the successful candidate will research the structural performance of Steel-Timber Composite (STC) beams combining steel members and cross-laminated timber panels. The role involves combining laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and analytical approaches to formulate reliable design concepts. The researcher will also contribute to teaching activities and engage with European research and standardization networks.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental laboratory testing on steel-timber composite beam specimens to evaluate mechanical behavior.
- Develop and validate advanced finite element models using software such as ABAQUS.
- Formulate analytical approaches and design methodologies for hybrid structural systems.
- Contribute to teaching and educational activities within the department.
- Collaborate with academic and industrial partners involved in European standardization activities.
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
Degree offered: PhD
