PhD Position in Plant Biology and AI: Discovering Small Molecules for the Circadian Clock
Explore the intersection of plant biology and artificial intelligence to discover novel small molecules modulating the circadian clock.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in plant biology, computational biology, or related fields, who are passionate about applying AI to solve agricultural challenges and improving crop productivity through chronobiology.
Overview
This PhD position at Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) focuses on integrating artificial intelligence with plant biology to uncover small molecules that regulate the circadian clock in plants. The circadian clock governs critical processes like growth, nutrient uptake, and stress responses, making it a key target for enhancing crop resilience and performance. The project combines computational biology, plant physiology, molecular biology, and chemical biology to develop AI-driven approaches for discovering and evaluating these molecules. Applicants will contribute to a cutting-edge interdisciplinary field at the intersection of chronobiology, chemical biology, and sustainable agriculture, with opportunities for international collaboration and conference participation.
What you'll do
- Develop artificial intelligence-assisted approaches to discover novel small molecules capable of modulating key components of the plant circadian clock.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate the impact of discovered molecules on root development and mineral nutrition in plants.
- Collaborate across disciplines, integrating computational biology, plant physiology, molecular biology, and chemical biology.
- Participate in international research collaborations and attend conferences to disseminate findings.
- Contribute to the emerging field linking chronobiology, chemical biology, and sustainable agriculture.
