PhD Student in Evolutionary and Ecological Genetics
Investigate the repeatability of evolution and phenotypic adaptation using large-scale genomic and experimental datasets.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, or ecology with strong programming skills and an interest in genomics.
Overview
Uppsala University invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Evolutionary and Ecological Genetics within the Department of Ecology and Genetics. The successful candidate will examine how species adapt to environmental changes by integrating mechanistic phenotypic insights with genomic data from large-scale evolve-and-resequence experiments. Working in an international research environment at the Evolutionary Biology Center, the researcher will combine bioinformatics, computational biology, and experimental work. The role offers opportunities for advanced training, networking, and optional departmental teaching up to twenty percent.
What you'll do
- Design and execute bioinformatic pipelines to analyze large-scale DNA pool-seq, RNA-seq, and genomic datasets.
- Perform statistical analyses to interpret quantitative genetic and population genomic variation.
- Conduct complementary experimental evolution work and phenotypic data collection using model insect systems.
- Collaborate with research team members and integrate findings from comparative genomics across related species.
- Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
- Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.
- Participate in departmental PhD school activities, networking events, and optional teaching duties up to twenty percent.
Requirements
