PhD Position in Advanced HIV-1 Reservoir Diagnostics
Join Karolinska Institutet for a PhD investigating HIV-1 reservoirs using advanced proviral sequencing and bioinformatics.
Best for:Best for biomedical laboratory scientists with a strong background in molecular virology, sequencing, and bioinformatics.
Overview
Karolinska Institutet offers a four-year full-time doctoral position focusing on the development and implementation of advanced HIV-1 reservoir diagnostics. Based within the research team of Maarten van de Klundert at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, the candidate will combine clinical sampling with molecular and bioinformatic analyses of HIV-1 proviruses. The position is part of the national BioLabX graduate school, which provides structured training and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to establish workflows for proviral DNA characterization, handle clinical biobanking, and study immunological characteristics.
What you'll do
- Establish and optimize workflows for the analysis of HIV-1 proviral DNA to evaluate genetic diversity, viral subtypes, and drug-resistance mutations.
- Conduct advanced bioinformatics and phylogenetic analyses on sequencing data from clinical cohorts.
- Manage biobanking activities for incoming clinical samples and participant materials.
- Characterize immunological parameters of study participants using methods such as FACS and ELIspot assays.
- Fulfill all coursework, seminar, and training requirements associated with the Karolinska Institutet doctoral program and BioLabX graduate school.
