Doctoral scholarship holder redox flow batteries
Investigate titanium-cerium redox flow batteries and electrolyte formulations for sustainable energy storage.
Best for:Best for chemical engineering or chemistry graduates with an interest in electrochemistry and sustainable energy storage technologies.
Overview
The University of Antwerp's Applied Electrochemistry and Catalysis (ELCAT) research group is seeking a full-time doctoral scholarship holder to study redox flow batteries. The successful candidate will conduct experimental research to optimize battery design, operating conditions, and titanium-cerium electrolyte chemistry for enhanced performance and lifetime. Responsibilities include preparing a PhD thesis, publishing scientific papers, and assisting with limited teaching and departmental support tasks. Applicants must hold or be close to completing a relevant Master's degree in chemical engineering or applied science chemistry.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on titanium-cerium redox flow chemistry and electrolyte formulations to evaluate charge-discharge rates and stability.
- Test battery design variations, including flow field configurations, membranes, scale-up, and cell stacking, to measure performance metrics such as power density and cross-over.
- Prepare and defend a doctoral thesis in the field of redox flow batteries for renewable energy storage.
- Publish scientific articles and contribute to patents stemming from the research project.
- Assist with a limited amount of teaching tasks and general research support for the Faculty of Applied Engineering.
