PhD Position in Machine Learning for Quantum Error Correction
Develop next-generation ML-based quantum error correction algorithms for scalable quantum computing.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in electrical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or physics with a strong background in coding theory, quantum computing, and programming (Python/Matlab).
Overview
This fully funded PhD position at Chalmers University of Technology focuses on advancing quantum error correction (QEC) through machine learning. The project aims to create efficient, hardware-constrained ML decoders for quantum systems, bridging gaps between coding theory, quantum information, and modern AI. As part of the **QuBriC** Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, the successful candidate will collaborate with leading academic and industrial partners across Europe, including research visits to Duke University and IQM Quantum Computers. The position offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for international networking in a dynamic research environment.
What you'll do
- Conduct high-quality research on ML-based quantum error correction decoders, focusing on performance, latency, and hardware constraints.
- Develop and implement novel algorithms combining machine learning, coding theory, and message-passing techniques.
- Perform numerical experiments, theoretical analysis, and software development for quantum decoding systems.
- Present research findings at international conferences and publish in leading journals.
- Collaborate with QuBriC partners, including academic and industrial institutions, and participate in network-wide training activities.
- Teach undergraduate and master’s-level courses (up to 20% of full-time duties).
- Engage in advanced graduate-level courses within Chalmers’ Electrical Engineering Graduate School.
