PhD in Acoustic Performance of Timber Structure Connections
Develop advanced numerical models to optimize the acoustic performance of sustainable timber buildings.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in engineering or acoustics with a strong background in numerical modeling and structural dynamics.
Overview
Eindhoven University of Technology and the Technical University of Denmark invite applications for a four-year joint PhD position focused on improving the acoustic performance of timber structures. Working within the QUIET-ARC project, the candidate will investigate how structural connections impact sound transmission and develop computationally efficient simulation methods. The project combines rigorous numerical modelling with experimental insights, including a six-month research stay at DTU in Denmark. The successful applicant will contribute to sustainable construction practices by providing reliable prediction tools for low-carbon building materials.
What you'll do
- Investigate how different connection types and layouts influence sound transmission in timber buildings
- Develop efficient numerical simulation methods to model acoustic performance and fastener variability
- Quantify uncertainty introduced by construction variations into acoustic predictive models
- Collaborate across institutions with research groups at Eindhoven University of Technology and the Technical University of Denmark
- Complete a six-month research stay at DTU's Acoustic Technology group in Denmark
- Contribute to teaching and student coaching tasks for up to 15% of annual working time
- Disseminate scientific findings through academic publications and presentations
