PhD student in Physics - NWARPS: Nucleation, Wetting, Adhesion, and Rheology of Polymeric Surfaces
Join the PRISM programme to research microscopic mechanisms of soft interfaces for sustainable material design.
Best for:Best for physics or chemistry graduates with a strong interest in experimental soft matter and fundamental physical modeling.
Overview
The Folding Sliding Stretching Lab at the Laboratoire de Physique de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS-PSL) is seeking a PhD candidate to investigate the fundamental physics of soft interfaces. This project focuses on understanding nucleation, wetting, and droplet dynamics on polymer-coated surfaces to advance technologies like dew harvesting and sustainable building materials. The successful candidate will combine experimental work with analytical modeling and numerical simulations. This position is part of the PRISM programme, which provides interdisciplinary training and international mobility opportunities, including a research stay at the University of Twente.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on soft interfaces using techniques such as AFM and ellipsometry.
- Develop analytical models and numerical simulations to explain physical phenomena at the microscale.
- Collaborate with international partners, including a research stay at the University of Twente.
- Engage with industrial partners such as Saint-Gobain to explore practical applications of the research.
- Participate in PRISM programme training, including courses on sustainability, innovation, and career development.
- Document research findings and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
