PhD Position in Mathematical Modeling of Vertebrate Morphogenesis
Develop multi-tissue mathematical models of embryogenesis using fluid mechanics and PDE analysis.
Best for:Best for applied mathematics master's graduates with strong skills in PDEs, scientific computing, and an interest in developmental biology.
Overview
This doctoral position focuses on developing and analyzing multi-tissue mathematical models of embryogenesis using partial differential equations derived from fluid mechanics. Hosted at the Institut Camille Jordan within the University of Lyon/CNRS ecosystem, the researcher will investigate tissue dynamics, implement numerical methods, and bridge theoretical predictions with experimental imaging and machine learning data. The work forms part of the interdisciplinary PREMMOVE project supported by the PEPR Maths-Vives initiative. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across institutions in Villeurbanne and Toulouse.
What you'll do
- Develop and analyze mathematical models describing the dynamics and interactions between multiple tissues during embryonic development
- Investigate analytical questions related to these models, including qualitative behavior and parameter influence
- Implement numerical methods adapted to the studied systems of partial differential equations
- Establish methods to link theoretical models with experimental data and estimate model parameters
- Compare theoretical and numerical results with biological imaging data using image processing and machine learning tools
Requirements
Degree required: Master 2 in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
Degree offered: PhD
