PhD in Epigenetic Regulation of Transposable Elements and Cell Cycle Checkpoints in Drosophila
Explore the epigenetic mechanisms controlling nervous system development in Drosophila under co-supervision in Toulouse and Varanasi.
Best for:Best for candidates with a master’s in biology, genetics, or related fields, passionate about epigenetic mechanisms and developmental biology, and eager to contribute to interdisciplinary research.
Overview
This PhD position at the Centre for Integrative Biology (CBI) in Toulouse, France, focuses on uncovering how epigenetic regulation of transposable elements influences cell cycle checkpoints during nervous system development in *Drosophila*. The project combines multidisciplinary approaches to advance fundamental biological insights. The successful candidate will conduct research at the interface of genetics, epigenetics, and developmental biology, with co-supervision from Dr. Luisa Di Stefano (CBI, Toulouse) and Dr. Richa Arya (BHU, India). The position is part of the Horizon Europe COFUND BEST Doctoral Programme, offering a fully funded opportunity for motivated candidates with a strong background in biological sciences.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research to investigate the epigenetic regulation of transposable elements and its impact on cell cycle checkpoints during Drosophila nervous system development.
- Develop and apply molecular biology techniques, including CRISPR-based genome editing, to manipulate and analyze genetic and epigenetic mechanisms.
- Perform advanced imaging and molecular assays to study gene expression, chromatin dynamics, and developmental phenotypes.
- Collaborate with co-supervisors in Toulouse and Varanasi to integrate findings and advance the project’s interdisciplinary goals.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in laboratory meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance scientific skills and knowledge.
