PhD Candidate in Imaging Mass Spectrometry
Explore spatial metabolomics and exposomics to uncover systemic metabolic and hormonal processes using advanced imaging mass spectrometry techniques.
Best for:Best for Master’s graduates in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields with a passion for hypothesis-driven research, mass spectrometry, and quantitative data analysis.
Overview
This PhD position at Helmholtz Munich’s Analytical Pathology department focuses on integrating imaging mass spectrometry, spatial metabolomics, and exposomics to investigate metabolic and hormonal processes across tissues and organs. The successful candidate will develop independent research questions, conduct hypothesis-driven experiments, and analyze high-dimensional data to generate novel biological insights. The project spans the entire scientific workflow, from hypothesis formulation to publication, offering a comprehensive training experience in cutting-edge biomedical research. The role is ideal for applicants with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields, seeking to advance their expertise in quantitative data analysis and tissue morphology.
What you'll do
- Develop and investigate independent, hypothesis-driven research questions related to cross-organ metabolic and hormonal processes and chemical exposures
- Establish and apply imaging mass spectrometry approaches for spatial metabolomics and spatial exposomics in various tissues
- Link molecular distribution patterns with tissue morphology, physiology, and pathophysiology
- Integrate and critically interpret high-dimensional data to identify systemic relationships and generate new biological hypotheses
- Independently prepare scientific publications as part of a cumulative PhD thesis
Requirements
Degree required: Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, human biology, pharmacy, chemistry, or a related field
