PhD Research Fellow in Bioinformatics – smORF Landscape
Uncover rare proteins and non-canonical translation events using large-scale genomics and machine learning.
Best for:Best for quantitative life-science graduates with strong programming skills and an interest in bioinformatics and genomics.
Overview
The University of Oslo is recruiting a PhD Research Fellow in bioinformatics and computational biology within the ORFeus Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network. The successful candidate will analyse over 15,000 public ribosome-profiling datasets to characterize rare proteins and investigate their relevance to human disease. Working within Professor Eivind Valen's research group, the fellow will collaborate with an international network of academic and industry partners, including a three-month secondment at EIRNA Bio. The position requires strong computational skills and provides comprehensive training in genomics, machine learning, and translational data science.
What you'll do
- Analyse more than 15,000 public ribosome-profiling datasets to identify rare and non-canonical translation events.
- Develop computational pipelines combining large-scale genomics, data aggregation, and machine learning algorithms.
- Contribute to the ORFeus network research objectives concerning the dark proteome and human disease relevance.
- Participate in network-wide training events, workshops, scientific conferences, and collaborative meetings.
- Complete a planned secondment of approximately three months at EIRNA Bio in Cork, Ireland.
- Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at international venues.
- Fulfil coursework and dissertation requirements to successfully obtain a PhD degree from the University of Oslo.
