Best for:Best for astrophysicists with a background in radio or millimetre astronomy and an interest in time-domain astronomy.
Overview
The Sub-department of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to design and implement a large-scale astrophysical transients programme using the Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT). Working alongside international teams including Blackholistic and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, the successful candidate will focus on rapid-response observations and high-cadence monitoring of transient phenomena. The appointee will contribute to data analysis, help shape science goals for the facility, and have the opportunity to engage in teaching. The position is fixed-term for two years, based in Oxford, United Kingdom.
What you'll do
- Design and implement a large-scale scientific programme focused on millimetre-wavelength astrophysical transients using the Africa Millimetre Telescope.
- Collaborate closely with Oxford-based and international teams, including the Blackholistic and EHT collaborations.
- Conduct rapid-response observations and high-cadence monitoring of transient phenomena ranging from gamma-ray bursts to local flaring stars.
- Contribute to the scientific exploitation and capability development of the AMT as part of the EHT array.
- Participate in teaching activities within the Sub-department of Astrophysics.
