Research Fellow: Biopharma Economics & Sustainability Modelling
Evaluate the economic and environmental impact of next-generation biomanufacturing technologies as part of a collaborative Prosperity Partnership.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment, and quantitative modelling in bioprocess or chemical engineering.
Overview
This postdoctoral research fellowship is part of the 'Next-Gen Biopharma Manufacturing 5.0' Prosperity Partnership, a collaborative initiative between UCL Biochemical Engineering and AstraZeneca. The role involves developing integrated techno-economic and life cycle assessment models to evaluate and optimize the cost, carbon footprint, and resource impacts of emerging bioprocess strategies. Working across UCL's London campus and AstraZeneca's Cambridge sites, the appointee will use data-driven decision-support tools to guide industrial implementation. Candidates are expected to hold a relevant PhD and bring strong quantitative modelling and analytical skills.
What you'll do
- Lead the development of integrated techno-economic and life cycle assessment models for next-generation biomanufacturing technologies.
- Incorporate uncertainty analysis and multi-objective optimization to evaluate cost, carbon footprint, and resource impacts.
- Apply decision-support tools to real-world case studies in close collaboration with industrial partners at AstraZeneca.
- Work across both UCL London and AstraZeneca Cambridge sites within an interdisciplinary team.
- Generate insights that inform strategic choices and guide the industrial implementation of emerging bioprocess strategies.
