Overview
The University of Aveiro invites applications for a research grant within the AID4Buildings project, focusing on artificial intelligence and drone technology for building stock characterisation. The selected researcher will contribute to developing prototype systems that leverage visible, ultraviolet, and infrared imagery to analyse structural attributes and thermal performance. Responsibilities include validating image databases, testing algorithms for automated feature extraction, and adapting open-source tools to the Portuguese context. The position offers an opportunity to work within the Civil Engineering Department alongside leading academic supervisors.
What you'll do
- Verify and correct the quality of the building image database
- Test and evaluate algorithms for the automated identification of building attributes from imagery
- Apply calibrated algorithms to case studies in Aveiro and Lisbon
- Further develop and adapt the open-source tool RUBIC-AI for the Portuguese context
- Support multi-hazard risk assessments and energy-retrofitting priority identifications
Requirements
Degree required: Bachelor Degree or equivalent
Language: Portuguese and/or English proficiency suitable for academic research
Instruction: Portuguese / English
- Background in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrotechnical Engineering, or related areas
- Experience in data collection and processing
- Enrollment in a doctoral programme or relevant study track
- Applicants must comply with the Research Fellow Statute and FCT Research Grant Regulations
