PhD in Superconducting Qubit Readout and Parametric Amplifiers
Design advanced superconducting parametric amplifiers in an industrial cleanroom to improve quantum processor readout.
Best for:Best for physics graduates with a strong background in superconductivity, cryogenic systems, and quantum hardware development.
Overview
This PhD position focuses on developing novel superconducting parametric amplifiers to overcome the scalability and thermal dissipation limits of current semiconductor-based cryogenic readout chains in quantum processors. Hosted at Université Grenoble Alpes within the Quantum Devices Laboratory at CEA-Leti, the project involves designing, fabricating in an industrial-grade cleanroom, and experimentally testing these amplifiers to measure superconducting qubits. The successful candidate will work closely with expert researchers in condensed matter physics and quantum hardware. Applicants are expected to possess a strong background in superconductivity, quantum hardware, or low-temperature physics, and to drive both the design and experimental validation stages of the research.
What you'll do
- Design innovative superconducting parametric amplifiers to replace traditional semiconductor-based cryogenic components
- Fabricate designed amplifier structures within the industrial-grade cleanroom facilities at CEA-Leti
- Integrate and test manufactured amplifiers in cryogenic measurement setups operating at millikelvin temperatures
- Measure and characterize multi-stage quantum amplifier readout chains connected to superconducting qubits
- Analyze experimental data, troubleshoot measurement setups, and refine device designs for optimal performance
- Collaborate with research team members and industry partners to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
