Overview

The University of Oxford seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Climate Processes Group within Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics. This 30-month fixed-term appointment contributes to the European RealESM project, focusing on how aerosols impact clouds, convection, and precipitation as climate models transition to kilometre-scale resolution. The appointee will employ regional and global simulations using the ICON model and compare outputs against extensive observational datasets. Responsibilities also include shaping research directions, collaborating with international partners, and contributing to scholarly publications.

What you'll do

  • Conduct regional and global kilometre-scale simulations using the ICON model to examine aerosol effects on cloud development and precipitation.
  • Contribute to the advancement and application of efficient aerosol and cloud representations, including the HAM-lite framework.
  • Evaluate model outputs against diverse observational datasets such as satellite measurements and field campaign data.
  • Investigate fundamental scientific questions concerning convective systems, radiative forcing, and cloud feedbacks.
  • Prepare research findings for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals and present outcomes at major scientific conferences.
  • Engage with European partner groups and assist in co-advising doctoral students within the research group.
