Overview

The Master of Science in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution (BEE) at the University of Tübingen offers a multidisciplinary approach to understanding biodiversity’s role in ecosystems. Students investigate the processes shaping organismal diversity—from genes to global scales—while addressing anthropogenic pressures like climate change and land use. The programme blends theoretical and empirical research, training students in fieldwork, laboratory techniques, and data analysis. It emphasises integrative thinking, predictive modelling, and societal impact, preparing graduates for careers in conservation, research, and policy. The curriculum is 80% in English, with optional German-language courses, and includes opportunities for international study.

What you'll do

  • Conduct rigorous empirical investigations in laboratory and field settings to quantify biodiversity across genetic, morphological, behavioural, and community levels.
  • Develop predictive models to assess anthropogenic and ecological impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem stability.
  • Analyse complex datasets using statistical and computational methods to link diversity to biological function and ecosystem services.
  • Design and implement research projects that address global and local ecological challenges, including climate change and habitat loss.
  • Strengthen communication skills to disseminate findings to academic and broader societal audiences.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration to integrate top-down and bottom-up approaches in ecological and evolutionary research.
