PhD for Bacterial Multicellular Interactions and Development
Investigate bacterial multicellularity and phage-bacteria interactions at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Best for:Best for biology graduates with a background in microbiology, molecular genetics, or microscopy and a strong interest in microbial development.
Overview
The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position in the Sigal Ben-Yehuda Lab. The research centers on microbial cell biology, investigating how bacteria establish intercellular communication, form multicellular structures, and respond to bacteriophage infections. The successful candidate will design and perform experimental work utilizing advanced molecular biology, microbiology, and imaging techniques. Applicants are expected to hold a relevant degree and demonstrate a strong passion for microbial systems and independent research.
What you'll do
- Design and execute experimental studies examining bacterial multicellular dynamics and communication.
- Investigate the structural and functional evolution of bacteria under bacteriophage stress.
- Apply molecular biology, microbiology, and advanced imaging techniques to analyze microbial behavior.
- Contribute to high-level scientific publications and present research findings in academic settings.
- Collaborate with lab members and participate in departmental research activities.
