PhD Position in 3D Gel Dosimetry for FLASH Radiotherapy
Develop a novel 3D gel dosimetry method for quality control in ultra-high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy using charged particle beams.
Best for:Best for physics or engineering graduates with a strong interest in medical physics, radiation oncology, and experimental dosimetry.
Overview
This doctoral project, hosted at Université Paris-Saclay within the Laboratoire National Henri Becquerel (CEA Paris-Saclay), focuses on advancing dosimetry for ultra-high-dose-rate FLASH radiotherapy. The successful candidate will develop and validate a 3D optically read dosimetric gel method suitable for charged particle beams including conventional electrons, very high energy electrons, and protons. Work will involve experimental beam measurements at partner institutions such as Institut Curie and Gustave Roussy, combined with Monte Carlo simulations. The research aims to enhance patient safety and support the clinical integration of FLASH radiotherapy treatments.
What you'll do
- Design and optimize a 3D optically read dosimetric gel methodology for ultra-high dose rate charged particle beams
- Perform beam measurements using conventional electrons, very high energy electrons, and protons at clinical facilities
- Validate measured dose distributions by comparing gel measurements with alternative dosimeters such as diamond and alanine
- Conduct Monte Carlo simulations to model beam interactions and verify experimental results
- Contribute to scientific publications and present research findings at conferences and meetings
