PhD Position in Predictable Cache Management for Real-Time Systems
Develop innovative cache monitoring and management mechanisms to improve predictability and efficiency in safety-critical real-time systems.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in computer architecture, real-time systems, and low-level programming.
Overview
The Inria Centre at Rennes University is offering a PhD position focused on making modern processor caches more predictable for safety-critical applications. The research aims to design and implement low-overhead mechanisms for monitoring memory block lifetimes and managing cache resources to reduce pessimism in Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET) analysis. This project is part of the ANR PRCI CoCoDaLi collaboration, involving Inria Rennes, RPTU, and Inria Lille. The successful candidate will work within the TARAN team to bridge the gap between offline scheduling and runtime cache enforcement. Applicants are expected to have a strong foundation in computer architecture and real-time systems, with a passion for high-performance, reliable computing.
What you'll do
- Design and implement predictable cache management mechanisms for real-time systems.
- Develop low-overhead monitoring techniques for memory block lifetimes.
- Conduct systematic analysis of trade-offs between monitoring granularity, runtime overhead, and WCET pessimism.
- Evaluate proposed mechanisms regarding predictability, complexity, and performance impact.
- Collaborate with research partners at RPTU and Inria Lille within the CoCoDaLi project.
- Present research progress regularly within the TARAN team and at academic venues.
