PhD in Spatiotemporal Integrated Metamaterials
Design dynamically modulated on-chip metamaterials for advanced nonreciprocal photonics applications.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in photonics, optics, or applied physics with a strong background in nanofabrication and numerical design.
Overview
Eindhoven University of Technology invites applications for a fully funded four-year PhD position focusing on spatiotemporal integrated metamaterials within the SPARK Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network. The successful candidate will design, fabricate, and experimentally validate chip-scale metamaterials featuring time-varying modulation for nonreciprocal light control. Working primarily within the Photonic Integration group, the project includes international secondments at INESC MN and PICadvanced in Portugal for component measurement and chip integration. The candidate will also undertake limited teaching responsibilities and collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary international consortium.
What you'll do
- Perform theoretical and numerical design of dynamically modulated photonic structures
- Fabricate chip-scale metamaterials using advanced cleanroom nanolithography techniques
- Conduct experimental demonstrations and characterizations of nonreciprocal light transport
- Collaborate on secondment activities at INESC MN in Portugal for component measurements
- Participate in chip-level integration tasks during a research stay at PICadvanced in Portugal
- Contribute to teaching duties and student coaching up to 10-15% of annual working time
- Engage with multidisciplinary international team members and industrial consortium partners
