Doctoral Programme in Advanced Imaging of Matter
An interdisciplinary doctoral research programme in physics, chemistry, and nanosciences at the University of Hamburg.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers in physics, chemistry, or nanosciences seeking an interdisciplinary research environment.
Overview
The Cluster of Excellence 'CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter' offers a structured doctoral programme focused on the microscopic understanding and dynamic control of matter. This interdisciplinary initiative brings together researchers from the University of Hamburg, DESY, the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, and the European XFEL. Doctoral candidates engage in research across quantum matter, molecular functionality, and complex heterogeneous systems. The programme provides comprehensive training, including scientific skills, career development, and access to international colloquia and guest programmes.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent research within one of the cluster's core areas: quantum matter, molecular matter, or complex heterogeneous systems.
- Participate in the structured doctoral training programme, including regular supervision board meetings.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across physics, chemistry, and structural biology departments.
- Attend and contribute to summer schools, annual retreats, and scientific colloquia.
- Participate in professional and key skills development workshops, such as scientific writing and proposal development.
- Contribute to the cluster's research community through presentations and networking activities.
