PhD Position in Multiomics Profiling of Complement-Mediated AMD Models
Explore cutting-edge multiomics techniques to uncover AMD pathomechanisms and drug responses in retinal disease models.
Best for:Best for highly motivated bioinformatics or biomedical researchers with a strong background in omics data analysis and a passion for translational vision science.
Overview
This PhD position within the MSCA Doctoral Network PANDORA focuses on discovering pathomechanisms and novel drug optimization strategies for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The successful candidate will generate transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of retinal cells carrying genetic variants linked to AMD, under various stress conditions and drug treatments. Using advanced induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived models and bioinformatics tools, the PhD student will integrate omics data to dissect disease mechanisms and identify biomarkers. The project offers state-of-the-art training in vision research, molecular biology, and computational analysis, with opportunities for lab exchanges across Europe. The work aims to advance diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for AMD, a leading cause of blindness in the elderly.
What you'll do
- Generate transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of retinal cells with AMD-linked genetic variants under baseline and stress conditions (e.g., oxidative stress, drug treatment).
- Develop and apply advanced induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived retinal models to study AMD pathomechanisms.
- Perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, including qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and western blot analysis.
- Conduct in vitro assays and metabolic measurements to analyze cell responses to stressors and drug treatments.
- Integrate and analyze omics data using bioinformatics tools to identify disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
- Collaborate with European experts through lab exchanges and network meetings to enhance interdisciplinary research skills.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in high-impact journals.
