PhD Student in Magnetic Excitations in Functional Oxides
Investigate ultrafast magnetic dynamics in functional oxides using advanced X-ray spectroscopy and theoretical modeling.
Best for:Best for physics or materials science graduates with a strong interest in magnetism, spectroscopy, and solid-state theory.
Overview
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) is seeking a motivated PhD student to join the 'Magnons: X-rays and Models' group. This research position focuses on exploring magnetic excitations and ultrafast dynamics in strongly correlated materials, specifically antiferromagnetic and altermagnetic systems. The successful candidate will combine experimental X-ray spectroscopy at facilities like BESSY II with theoretical approaches such as multiplet theory and density functional theory. The role involves conducting independent research, collaborating with international partners, and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
What you'll do
- Conduct an independent research project on magnetic excitations and ultrafast dynamics in functional oxide materials.
- Participate in the application and further development of X-ray spectroscopy methods at BESSY II and other international facilities.
- Perform experiments at synchrotron radiation sources and X-ray free-electron laser facilities in collaboration with external partners.
- Apply and develop advanced theoretical and data analysis methods for X-ray spectroscopy.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data using appropriate theoretical models.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Present results at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to the collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment of the group.
