Research Fellow in In Vitro Lung Models
Develop advanced human-relevant in vitro lung models to investigate respiratory barrier function and neutrophil migration.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in mammalian cell culture, respiratory biology, or immunology seeking a dedicated fellowship in advanced in vitro modeling.
Overview
The School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire is seeking a Research Fellow to join the Centre for Research in Advanced Therapeutics & Drug Safety (CRATDS). This full-time, 12-month fixed-term appointment involves designing, validating, and utilizing human respiratory epithelial and immune-cell models to study neutrophil migration and inflammatory responses. The successful candidate will plan and execute experiments, analyze complex biological data, maintain rigorous research standards, and actively contribute to project outputs and academic publications. Candidates are expected to bring practical expertise in cell culture and a collaborative mindset to support the research team's objectives.
What you'll do
- Develop and validate human-relevant respiratory epithelial and immune-cell models
- Investigate neutrophil migration, epithelial barrier function, and inflammatory responses to chemical and biological stimuli
- Select and apply appropriate cell-exposure and analytical methods, including microscopy, flow cytometry, and plate-based assays
- Plan and execute experiments, interpret datasets, and maintain accurate documentation of research records and safety risks
- Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, project meetings, and grant funding applications
- Collaborate effectively with academic, technical, and external industrial partners
- Support teaching activities and student research projects where appropriate
