Doctoral Researcher in Computational Weld Mechanics
Explore advanced computational modeling of heat-affected zones in high-strength steels with experimental validation.
Best for:Best for candidates with a Master’s in materials science, mechanical engineering, or computational mechanics, passionate about computational modeling and experimental validation in welding processes.
Overview
This doctoral position at LUT University focuses on computational weld mechanics, specifically modeling the heat-affected zone (HAZ) behavior in welded high-strength steels. The successful candidate will develop and validate computational weld mechanics (CWM) and finite element method (FEM) models, integrating phase-transformation simulations and experimental data. The project combines computational techniques with hands-on experimentation to enhance understanding and prediction of weld quality and material performance. Applicants should have a strong background in materials science, mechanical engineering, or computational modeling and be eager to contribute to both theoretical and applied research in welding technology.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement computational models for simulating heat-affected zones in welded high-strength steels using computational weld mechanics and finite element methods.
- Conduct phase-transformation simulations to predict material behavior under welding conditions.
- Perform experimental validation of computational models through hands-on testing and analysis.
- Collaborate with research teams to integrate simulation results with real-world welding processes.
- Publish research findings in high-impact academic journals and present results at international conferences.
- Contribute to the development of advanced materials and welding techniques for industrial applications.
