Postdoctoral Scholar in MicroRNA and Cortical Neuronal Development
Join an NIH-funded lab at UMass Chan Medical School to explore microRNA’s role in motor neuron development and spinal cord injury repair.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral neuroscientists with expertise in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and a keen interest in microRNA mechanisms and spinal cord regeneration.
Overview
This NIH-funded postdoctoral position at UMass Chan Medical School’s Neurosurgery Department offers the opportunity to investigate how microRNAs regulate corticospinal motor neuron development and regeneration. Under the supervision of Dr. Suzanne Tharin, the successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research aimed at advancing stem cell-based strategies for spinal cord injury repair. The role involves hands-on molecular biology, in vivo rodent models, and collaborative mentorship of students, with projects spanning microRNA targeting, dendritic morphology, and axon regeneration. Ideal for neuroscientists with a strong molecular biology background and a passion for translational research.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on microRNA controls over corticospinal motor neuron development and regeneration, including differentiation mechanisms between neuron subtypes.
- Identify and analyze targets of differentially regulated microRNAs in corticospinal motor neurons, assessing downstream effects on dendritic morphology and neuron identity.
- Study in vivo responses of corticospinal motor neurons to microRNA modulation, evaluating potential roles in cellular recovery and axon regeneration.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement experimental protocols for molecular biology and in vivo rodent models.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in lab techniques, fostering a collaborative research environment.
- Present research findings at internal lab meetings and external conferences as required.
