Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Brain Evolution and Transgenic Acoel Neuroscience
Lead cutting-edge transgenic research on acoel nervous system evolution and establish experimental platforms for neuroscience discovery.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in molecular biology, genetic engineering experience, and hands-on expertise in embryo microinjection and transgenic model systems.
Overview
This postdoctoral position at The Francis Crick Institute’s Chandra Lab focuses on pioneering transgenic techniques in *Hofstenia miamia*, a novel acoel model organism. The role combines advanced genetic engineering with lab management to investigate how diffuse nerve nets evolved into centralized brains. The successful candidate will design and implement protocols for stable transgenic lines, conduct embryo microinjections, and maintain acoel cultures while supporting lab operations. The position is ideal for researchers with expertise in molecular biology and a passion for neuroscience innovation.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize protocols for generating stable transgenic lines in *Hofstenia miamia* and other acoel species
- Perform plasmid design, cloning, and molecular biology techniques for genetic engineering
- Conduct embryo microinjections and maintain transgenic acoel cultures
- Care for marine invertebrates, including embryo collection, rearing, and monitoring automated seawater systems
- Organize and manage laboratory operations, including onboarding new members and maintaining inventory
- Lead research projects focused on nervous system organization, regeneration, and behavior
- Collaborate with lab members to ensure smooth delivery of research activities
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, or a related field
Language: English (proficiency required for communication and documentation)
Instruction: English
Publications: Authorship on rigorous peer-reviewed articles demonstrating scientific project completion
- Expertise in genetic engineering and transgenic techniques
- Proven experience with embryo microinjection
- Strong background in molecular biology and cloning
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research lab
