PhD position in Arctic Paleoceanography
Investigate past Arctic climate and marine productivity changes using marine sediment archives.
Best for:Best for candidates with an MSc in geosciences or oceanography and a strong interest in paleoclimate research.
Overview
The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join the POLARIS project, which explores the future of Arctic marine productivity. The successful applicant will analyze marine sediment cores to reconstruct past environmental conditions, including sea ice, ocean circulation, and climate variability during the Holocene and past interglacial periods. This research aims to provide critical insights into how Arctic marine systems respond to climate warming. The candidate will work within the Department of Glaciology and Climate, collaborating with an international team of researchers. The position is a 3-year fixed-term appointment based in Copenhagen.
What you'll do
- Conduct paleoceanographic and paleoclimate research using marine sediment cores from Greenland and the Arctic.
- Integrate diverse proxy records to reconstruct past changes in ocean circulation, sea ice, and marine ecosystems.
- Perform geochemical, sedimentological, and microfossil analyses to interpret environmental archives.
- Collaborate with international partners and contribute to the interdisciplinary POLARIS project goals.
- Communicate research findings through scientific publications and presentations.
- Participate in department seminars and contribute to the academic life of the research group.
