Overview

INRAE is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to study how heat stress reduces milk yield and other performance traits in dairy cattle. The work will be carried out in the GABI unit, within the Genetics for Bovine Sustainability (GBoS) team, under the supervision of Beatriz Cuyabano. The fellow will combine genetic, phenotypic and meteorological data to develop genotype‑by‑environment models that quantify production losses across the lactation. Expected outputs include genetic evaluations, scientific reports and presentations to both scientific and stakeholder audiences.

What you'll do

  • Perform genetic evaluations that incorporate genotype‑by‑environment (GxE) interactions across temperature‑humidity index levels.
  • Analyse and interpret the outputs of the genetic evaluations to identify heat‑stress sensitive animals.
  • Integrate large‑scale animal performance records with meteorological data for whole‑lactation analyses.
  • Develop and apply statistical models to quantify production losses due to heat stress at animal and population levels.
  • Prepare scientific reports and deliver presentations to academic audiences and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design of selection strategies aimed at improving heat‑stress resilience in dairy herds.
