PhD Candidate in Marine Larval Dispersal and Spatial Population Genetics
Explore the intersection of oceanography, genetics, and computational modelling to advance marine conservation science.
Best for:Best for candidates with a master’s in ecology, evolutionary biology, marine science, or computational biology, seeking to combine population genetics, oceanography, and computational modelling.
Overview
This fully funded PhD position at NTNU’s Department of Biology focuses on modelling marine larval dispersal and spatial population genetics. Under the supervision of Associate Professor Scott C. Burgess, the candidate will develop computational and statistical methods to study how coastlines, ocean currents, and biological factors shape genetic and demographic structures in marine populations. The project integrates simulations, machine learning, and genomic data to predict population responses to environmental change. Ideal for applicants with a strong quantitative background and interest in interdisciplinary marine science, this role offers training in cutting-edge research tools and international collaboration opportunities.
