Research Associate in Heat and Health Modelling
Join an EU Horizon-funded consortium to develop advanced statistical models for quantifying heat-related health impacts across Europe.
Best for:Best for researchers with a PhD in statistics, epidemiology, or environmental health, skilled in Bayesian hierarchical models, R programming, and epidemiological data analysis, seeking to contribute to climate-health interdisciplinary research.
Overview
This Research Associate position at Imperial College London focuses on interdisciplinary research within the EUROASIS consortium, funded by the EU Horizon programme. The role involves advancing statistical and epidemiological methods to assess temperature-related health impacts, particularly during heatwaves. Based at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the School of Public Health, the successful candidate will develop methodological pipelines for heat-health impact assessments, harmonise and analyse climate and health datasets, and create evidence-synthesis models. The position is ideal for statistically skilled researchers with expertise in epidemiology, environmental health, and climate science, aiming to contribute to policy-relevant research on heat resilience and climate change attribution.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement advanced statistical models to quantify heat-related mortality and morbidity burdens across European and international settings.
- Harmonise and analyse large-scale climate and health datasets, including data wrangling, manipulation, and integration.
- Create methodological pipelines for heat-related health impact assessments across European cities.
- Develop evidence-synthesis models that integrate diverse data sources to quantify health impacts of heat exposure.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including climate scientists, epidemiologists, and public health experts, within the EUROASIS consortium.
- Present research findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, including writing for publication in high-quality journals.
- Prioritise research tasks and manage workloads in response to project deadlines and consortium deliverables.
