PhD Fellow in Marine Molecular Ecology
Investigate Arctic marine molecular ecology and fish biodiversity using environmental DNA within the Arctic Ocean 2050 project.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in molecular ecology or genetics with strong skills in molecular laboratory techniques and bioinformatics.
Overview
The Norwegian College of Fishery Science at UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a 4-year PhD Fellowship in Marine Molecular Ecology. The successful candidate will join the Research Group for Genetics and contribute to the national flagship project 'Arctic Ocean 2050'. The research focuses on illuminating fish diversity, ecosystem connectivity, and biological interactions using environmental DNA and multidisciplinary survey methods. The appointment includes three years of dedicated research training and one year of departmental duties, primarily undergraduate teaching in fish biology and aquatic molecular ecology.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on Arctic fish diversity and community connectivity using environmental DNA.
- Process seawater, tissue, and community samples using laboratory protocols such as DNA extraction and PCR/qPCR.
- Perform bioinformatic and statistical analyses on DNA sequence data and environmental datasets.
- Contribute to the construction of molecular-based food webs and ecological trait categorizations.
- Participate in teaching activities within fish biology and aquatic molecular ecology courses.
- Engage with the research group's career development programs, scientific meetings, and outreach initiatives.
