Overview

This doctoral project examines whether groundbreaking scientific advancements in STEM fields—such as antibiotics, CRISPR-Cas9, or pharmacotherapies—stem primarily from individual visionaries or collaborative teamwork. Through a systematic analysis of at least 50 key historical breakthroughs, the research combines case studies, comparative pattern recognition, and quantitative data evaluation across medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, physiology, and the history of science. The goal is to develop a new understanding of the interplay between individual creativity and teamwork, with implications for research funding, team organization, and innovation policy. The project is interdisciplinary, blending historical analysis with modern innovation research to address a question central to scientific progress.
