ESRC IAA Research Associate in Explainable AI Decision Models
Develop explainable AI decision models for insurance underwriting using evidential reasoning theory.
Best for:Best for researchers with a PhD and a strong background in artificial intelligence, decision science, and probabilistic data analysis.
Overview
The University of Manchester is seeking a talented Research Associate to join the Alliance Manchester Business School on a fixed-term project funded by the ESRC IAA and Protector Insurance. The successful candidate will focus on translating foundational evidential reasoning theory and industrial domain knowledge into practical eXplainable AI-powered Decision Models (XAI-DMs) for insurance underwriting. Working alongside academic supervisors and industry practitioners, the researcher will be responsible for developing, testing, and integrating advanced probabilistic and decision-making frameworks into commercial workflows. This role offers an exceptional chance to bridge cutting-edge academic research in decision science with real-world financial applications.
What you'll do
- Design and develop eXplainable AI-powered Decision Models (XAI-DMs) tailored for insurance underwriting applications.
- Translate evidential reasoning theory and Maximum Likelihood Evidential Reasoning frameworks into operational software solutions.
- Collaborate directly with industrial partners at Protector Insurance to integrate decision models into existing workflows.
- Conduct rigorous probabilistic data analysis and manage uncertain evidence acquired from imperfect data and human judgment.
- Translate complex technical methodologies into user-friendly formats suitable for practitioners within the insurance sector.
