Postdoctoral Appointee in Theoretical Particle Physics
Conduct independent research in theoretical particle physics and phenomenology at Argonne National Laboratory.
Best for:Best for theoretical physicists with a PhD and a strong research background in particle phenomenology or quantum field theory.
Overview
The Particle Theory Group within the High Energy Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a Postdoctoral Appointee position focusing on theoretical particle physics and particle phenomenology. The successful candidate will pursue an independent research program that complements ongoing group efforts spanning Standard Model and beyond-Standard Model physics, collider phenomenology, QCD, and effective field theory. Additional research avenues within the group include artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum information, and real-time simulations. Applicants are expected to hold a relevant doctorate and demonstrate a strong background in theoretical physics or formal quantum field theory with phenomenological interests.
What you'll do
- Pursue an active, independent research program in theoretical particle physics and phenomenology
- Contribute to research projects extending within and beyond the Standard Model
- Collaborate with group members on collider phenomenology, perturbative QCD, or effective field theory
- Explore applications of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or quantum simulation to particle physics
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at conferences
