Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry (ASC)
A four‑semester, English‑taught MSc that combines advanced spectroscopy courses with international study and a research project.
Best for:Students with a solid chemistry background who want intensive training in spectroscopy, laboratory techniques, and international research experience.
Overview
The Advanced Spectroscopy in Chemistry (ASC) programme leads to a Master of Science degree and is coordinated by Leipzig University together with partner institutions in Bologna, Helsinki, Krakow and Lille. Students spend the first semester in Lille and then choose between Leipzig and Lille for the second semester, with the possibility to study at additional partner universities in later semesters. The curriculum combines compulsory spectroscopy courses, laboratory work, and a research project or internship in the third semester, culminating in a thesis in the fourth semester. Applicants are expected to hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field and to demonstrate English proficiency at B2 level.
What you'll do
- Attend and complete all compulsory and elective spectroscopy courses across partner universities.
- Perform laboratory experiments and acquire practical skills in mass spectrometry, NMR, X‑ray diffraction and related techniques.
- Design and execute a research project or internship in the third semester, producing a written report.
- Prepare and defend a master’s thesis based on the research project in the fourth semester.
- Participate in at least two semesters of study abroad, coordinating mobility with the consortium.
