Research Investigator - Research Scientist
Join a leading Rheumatology team to advance translational research in fibrotic disease mechanisms.
Best for:Experienced researchers with a strong background in fibrosis, organoid models, and translational molecular biology.
Overview
The University of Michigan Medical School is seeking an experienced researcher to join the Division of Rheumatology within the Department of Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will lead translational studies focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of chronic fibrotic diseases, including myofibroblast activation and extracellular matrix remodeling. This role involves designing experiments using human biospecimens, stem-cell-derived systems, and animal models to identify novel therapeutic targets. The position offers opportunities for academic advancement, mentorship of junior staff, and teaching within a collaborative laboratory environment.
What you'll do
- Design and execute translational research studies utilizing human biospecimens and animal models.
- Develop and implement three-dimensional organoid models to investigate disease mechanisms and vascular stromal interactions.
- Perform computational analysis on multidimensional datasets to identify molecular pathways and therapeutic targets.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a laboratory setting.
- Contribute to the academic mission through teaching and collaborative research efforts.
- Prepare and publish high-impact research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD
Language: English; excellent written and spoken proficiency.
Instruction: English
Publications: Evidence of scholarly ability through publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals is expected.
- Minimum of two years of research experience in cellular and molecular biology, genetics, and metabolic regulation.
- Minimum of two years of experience in the cell biology of fibrosis, including myofibroblast activation and extracellular matrix remodeling.
- Proficiency in developing and utilizing 3D patient-derived organoid models.
- Competence in computational analysis and multidimensional data processing.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior researchers and supervise laboratory personnel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
