PhD: Multi-modal microscopy and tomography of virus-infected organoids
Investigate viral pathogenesis in human organoids using advanced multi-modal microscopy within an EU-funded MSCA network.
Best for:Best for life science graduates with a strong background in microscopy, virology, or organoid models seeking an EU-funded doctoral fellowship.
Overview
This doctoral position is part of the MERIT (Metabolic Reprogramming in viral pathogenesis) EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions training programme, coordinated by academic supervisors at AUMC and hosted in Norway. The selected PhD candidate will focus on applying multi-modal microscopy and tomography techniques to study virus-infected human organoids. The research aims to advance our understanding of how viral infections alter human tissues at a cellular level. The candidate is expected to conduct rigorous experimental research, collaborate across an international network of researchers, and contribute to scientific publications.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain human organoid models for viral infection studies
- Perform multi-modal microscopy and tomographic imaging on infected tissue samples
- Analyze complex imaging datasets to quantify cellular and structural changes caused by pathogens
- Collaborate with consortium partners within the MERIT training network
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Present research findings at international conferences and project meetings
Requirements
Degree required: Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree in biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field
Degree offered: PhD
Language: English; professional proficiency in writing and speaking
Instruction: English
- Demonstrated experience with cell culture or organoid models
- Familiarity with advanced microscopy or imaging techniques
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
- Ability to work effectively in an international, multidisciplinary team
- Must comply with the Horizon Europe MSCA mobility rule (not have resided or carried out main activity in Norway for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date)
- Must be a First Stage Researcher (R1) holding a degree qualifying for doctoral studies
