PhD in Photoactive Organic Radicals for Nanomedicine Applications
Develop novel fluorescent and photochromic organic radicals for dual-function nanoassemblies in magnetic hyperthermia and spin-based information encoding.
Best for:Best for chemistry PhD candidates with expertise in organic synthesis, nanomaterials, and photophysics, seeking interdisciplinary research in nanomedicine and spin-based technologies.
Overview
This PhD position at Nantes Université focuses on designing and synthesizing fluorescent and photochromic organic radicals to create hybrid nanoassemblies with magnetic and optical properties. The research aims to advance on-command nanomedicine by addressing challenges in magnetic hyperthermia, such as spatial heat diffusion and time kinetics. The project involves interdisciplinary collaborations with leading institutions in France, including Sorbonne University, ENS Paris, Strasbourg University, and Perpignan University. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge studies on light-matter interactions, ultrafast spin dynamics, and the integration of organic radicals with superparamagnetic nanoparticles. The work will leverage microfluidic synthesis and surface functionalization techniques to ensure reproducibility and precision in nano-object design.
What you'll do
- Design and synthesize fluorescent and photochromic organic radicals for hybrid nanoassemblies.
- Investigate the impact of light on magnetic properties at ultrafast timescales (ns/sub-ns).
- Develop methods to control size and functionalize surfaces of nano-objects using microfluidic synthesis.
- Collaborate with external partners to study ultrafast spectroscopic studies and theoretical modeling.
- Ensure reproducibility and retention of properties after self-assembly of nanoassemblies.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary projects funded by the French Research National Agency (ANR).
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
