PhD Position in Virtual Knowledge Graphs for Edge AI and Stream Processing
Explore innovative knowledge graph techniques for edge computing and AI-driven reasoning in resource-constrained environments.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Mathematics with a strong interest in logic, database theory, and edge computing, who enjoy both theoretical research and hands-on prototyping.
Overview
This PhD position at KU Leuven’s Stream Intelligence Lab focuses on advancing knowledge graph technologies for edge computing. The project investigates how to balance materialized and virtualized knowledge graphs to optimize reasoning efficiency on devices like routers and home care gateways. The successful candidate will contribute to both theoretical research and practical implementation, bridging logic, machine learning, stream processing, and edge computing. The position offers a scholarship for doctoral studies with a four-year completion target, including teaching support at the Kortrijk campus. The research aims to develop a new reasoning paradigm that combines the strengths of materialization and virtualization.
What you'll do
- Develop theoretical models and algorithms for hybrid knowledge graph reasoning on edge devices.
- Implement and test prototypes for materialized and virtualized knowledge graph strategies in real-world edge environments.
- Conduct empirical evaluations to compare reasoning efficiency, scalability, and expressiveness across edge, fog, and cloud layers.
- Collaborate with the Stream Intelligence Lab to integrate findings into broader research on stream processing and distributed systems.
- Support undergraduate and graduate teaching by assisting in lectures and lab sessions at KU Leuven’s Kortrijk campus.
- Present research findings at academic conferences and workshops, fostering knowledge exchange within the AI and computing communities.
