Postdoctoral Research Associate in Marine Metabolomics and Biotechnology
Develop biotechnological solutions for upcycling marine waste into high-value metabolites and lipids using advanced cultivation and proteomics techniques.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in metabolomics, lipidomics, or fermentation, hands-on experience in marine organism cultivation, and proficiency in HPLC, GC-MS, or GC-FID.
Overview
This postdoctoral position at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) focuses on transforming marine waste streams into valuable metabolites and products like lipids and pigments. The role involves designing novel cultivation strategies for marine heterotrophic protists, optimizing growth and metabolite production, and analyzing extracellular enzyme composition via proteomics. The successful candidate will contribute to the EU-funded Marine Mass Cascade (MaMaCas) project, collaborate with international partners, and publish findings. The position also includes supporting marine microbiology and biotechnology research at SAMS and potential teaching contributions.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize cultivation strategies for marine heterotrophic protists using marine waste streams as substrates.
- Analyze extracellular enzyme composition of marine protists using proteomics techniques.
- Collaborate with EU partners on project meetings and reporting requirements.
- Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals.
- Support marine microbiology and biotechnology research at SAMS.
- Contribute to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, if interested.
- Travel to EU partner locations for project-related meetings.
