PhD Position in Epigenetics and Obesity Research
Explore epigenetic mechanisms of weight regain and metabolic memory in obesity using advanced molecular biology techniques.
Best for:Best for biomedical researchers with a master’s in molecular biology, genetics, or related fields, passionate about epigenetics and obesity mechanisms, and experienced in advanced molecular techniques like single-cell sequencing and multi-omics.
Overview
This three-year PhD position at the University of Oslo’s K.G Jebsen Centre of Obesity Research (CORA) focuses on uncovering molecular mechanisms behind weight regain and long-term weight loss maintenance. Under the supervision of Yvonne Böttcher’s research group at the Department of Clinical Molecular Biology, the candidate will investigate epigenetic and epitranscriptomic processes in human adipose tissue. The project integrates clinical collaborations, single-cell sequencing, and multi-omics technologies to identify novel biomarkers of weight regain. The successful applicant will contribute to translational research bridging basic science and clinical obesity treatment.
What you'll do
- Investigate epigenetic and epitranscriptomic mechanisms regulating human body weight and adipose tissue biology.
- Develop and apply advanced molecular biology techniques, including single-cell sequencing and multi-omics approaches.
- Collaborate with clinical environments to analyze primary adipose tissue samples from ongoing obesity treatment studies.
- Identify novel epigenetic biomarkers associated with weight regain after weight loss.
- Contribute to translational research bridging basic science and clinical applications in obesity treatment.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
