PhD Position in Iron Electrodeposition Diagnostics
Explore zero-emission ironmaking through operando diagnostics in an ERC-funded project at Eindhoven University of Technology.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in engineering, physics, or chemistry with a strong background in operando diagnostics and electrochemical systems, seeking to contribute to sustainable materials research.
Overview
This fully funded PhD position at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) focuses on advancing zero-emission iron production via low-temperature electrolysis. Led by Prof. Y. Tang under an ERC Starting Grant, the project aims to uncover fundamental mechanisms of iron electrodeposition using operando diagnostics like neutron and X-ray imaging. The successful candidate will investigate knowledge gaps in metal deposition processes, bridging electrochemistry and material science to improve green steel production and energy storage. The role combines experimental work with interdisciplinary collaboration, offering a dynamic environment in the Brainport Eindhoven tech hub.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on iron electrodeposition mechanisms using operando diagnostics (e.g., neutron/X-ray imaging).
- Develop and apply advanced electrochemical and material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, EDX, XRD).
- Analyze and interpret data to uncover hidden knowledge gaps in metal deposition processes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance sustainable iron production technologies.
- Develop teaching skills and mentor students as part of the PhD role.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.
