PhD Student in Chromatin & Genome Integrity
Investigate chromatin structure, DNA repair mechanisms, and genome stability in human cells and stem cell-derived models.
Best for:Best for molecular biologists with experience in chromatin biology, human cell culture, and quantitative microscopy.
Overview
Lund University is inviting applications for a four-year PhD position in Chromatin & Genome Integrity within the Faculty of Medicine, led by Dr. Giulia Saredi. The successful candidate will examine how chromatin structure is maintained during DNA damage responses and how these mechanisms preserve genome and epigenome integrity. Responsibilities include leading an independent research project, employing advanced cell biology and genomic approaches, and participating in lab meetings and scientific discussions. Candidates will be both enrolled as doctoral students and employed by Lund University, benefiting from standard Swedish government employment terms.
What you'll do
- Lead an independent research project focusing on chromatin maintenance and DNA damage responses under supervision.
- Perform cell biology, biochemistry, high-content imaging, and genomic assays using human cells and stem cell-derived neuronal models.
- Execute human cell culture techniques and maintain human iPSCs cultures.
- Conduct molecular cloning, western blotting, and quantitative image-based microscopy.
- Perform functional assays to evaluate genome stability and cell survival following genotoxic drug treatments.
- Actively participate in laboratory meetings, collaborative discussions, and group organization tasks.
Requirements
Degree required: Second-cycle degree with at least 240 higher education credits, including 60 credits at the second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge.
Degree offered: PhD
